“Attention” is the first single off of Charlie Puth’s forthcoming second studio album. After the massive success of his Wiz Khalifa-assisted hit “See You Again” and tracks like “One Call Away” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore” featuring Selena Gomez, Puth is readying a new sound for his next project. “Attention,” which he produced himself and co-wrote with Jacob Kasher, is about a spiteful ex-girlfriend.
“When I came up with the song originally, I was on this hotel bed in this really cool room in the Philippines,” he tells Genius. “I think back about the time when I was in that hotel room and she was literally crying to me about how mistreated she was by her ex—had me thinking that I could be the guy who could fix her. Like, girls are crazy. They’re amazing and crazy at the same time.”
